Incompatibility of modulated checkerboard patterns with the neutron scattering resonance peak in cuprate superconductors

چکیده
Checkerboard patterns have been proposed to explain the real space structure observed in scanning tunneling microscopy experiments on BSCCO and Na-CCOC. However, simple checkerboard patterns have low energy incommsensurate IC spin peaks rotated 45° from the direction of the charge IC peaks, contrary to what is seen in neutron scattering. Here, we study modulated checkerboard patterns which can resolve the low frequency inconsistency. Using spin-wave theory, we explore the spin response of these superstructures and find that the high energy response is inconsistent with neutron scattering results. In particular, the modulated checkerboard structures are incapable of supporting the experimentally well-established resonance peak at , .

Magnetic excitations of stripes and checkerboards in the cuprates
We discuss the magnetic excitations of well-ordered stripe and checkerboard phases, including the high energy magnetic excitations of recent interest and possible connections to the “resonance peak” in cuprate superconductors. Using a suitably parametrized Heisenberg model and spin wave theory, we study a variety of magnetically ordered configurations, including vertical and diagonal siteand bo...

Neutron scattering is proved to be a vital probe in unveiling the magnetic properties of high temperature superconductors (HTSC). Detailed information about the energy and momentum dependence of the magnetic dynamics of HTSC have been obtained directly by this technique. Over the past decade by improving the crystal growth methods, large and high quality single crystals of HTSC, which are ess...

A model of preformed hole-pairs in cuprate superconductors has been proposed based on some experimental results i.e., 1) electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of quenched superconductors which show very frequently the fragment (CuO)4 broken off from the CuO2 layer in the structure, 2) 41 meV peak observed in neutron diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of superconductors, 3) Hei...

There is compelling evidence for a strong electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in cuprate superconductors from the isotope effects on the supercarrier mass, high resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopies (ARPES), a number of optical and neutron-scattering measurements in accordance with our prediction of high-temperature superconductivity in polaronic liquids. A number of observations...
متن کاملRemarks on Spin Gaps and Neutron Peak Selection Rules in YBCO — Do Interlayer Tunneling and Interlayer RVB as Mechanisms for Cuprate Superconductors Differ?
We point out that both superexchange between CuO2 layers, and interlayer tunneling, derive from frustrated one-particle hopping between layers, and that they should be treated on an equal footing. Doing so, we arrive at a new view of the nature of pairing in the cuprate supercondcutors, which explains the striking even ↔ odd selection rule observed by Keimer in neutron scattering by YBCO.
